Good morning! I had an interesting day of work yesterday. Well, it was probably interesting on several levels, but I will focus on the work side this morning…I had two of the homes I had listed for sale come off the market without selling… That rarely happens to me. Honestly, most of my listings sell quite quickly, often the first weekend they are on the market… This wasn’t the case with these two homes. One got very few showings. The other got a whole bunch of showings, but no contract offers. Both were on the market for several months, and probably weren’t going to sell at the price they were at… Either way, both came off the market without selling. I think the sellers were tired of the process. And I understand. Keeping your home ready for sale for several months can be draining… So ...

Several times in the past few weeks, I've seen people on social media who have posted the above statement in one form or another. Basically, they've said, "if you don't believe the same way I do about [insert issue or cause here] then unfriend me now. We simply cannot be friends." The issue or cause could be related to any topic but lately these statements have mostly been about politics. And here's my answer about these strongly worded "requests."  My answer is "no." I typically do not share my political or religious beliefs on social media. Not because I don't have my own belief system, but because most people don't want to have a real discussion about these topics. Instead, they want you to come around to their way of thinking. To get you to believe the way they do. Also, there are p...

Nelson Edwards was born on a farm in Lowndes County, Alabama back in 1917. I don’t have any information as to his parents, childhood or schooling, but apparently, he was a bright man. In 1937, he moved to Detroit working at a Chrysler plant. He became involved in the UAW union rising through the ranks. He was elected UAW Union steward at the Chrysler plant. He was laid off in 1941 when he became active at the Ford Motor Company, serving as the local’s education, citizenship and by-laws committee. In 1947, he became the International Representative assigned to Region 1A. he served in that capacity for 14 years. In 1970, he was elected Vice President of the UAW. In 1974, he was killed by a gunman. What you may not know about Nelson is that he was the first African-American to hold the posi...

Mimi Foster's blog, "10 Things Your Realtor Can't Tell You" has been reblogged 19 times, several years ago.  I saw it today thanks to her link on Active Rain's Question & Answer.  Just read it and absorb everything!  Great post Mimi! Over the past few decades of selling real estate, people often ask questions I can't answer, either because of laws preventing disclosure, or because so many of the questions are subjective and change from person to person or situation to situation. Here are some common questions your Realtor can't tell you: Is it a safe neighborhood? This is probably the question I get asked most often. I can't possibly answer that, but I can direct you to either the local police department for crime statistics, or to online sites that can give you area crime reports. Rega...

Frozen pipes during the winter months are the bane of many a household. As water freezes it expands, which is great news for marine life, as it means watery habitats don't freeze solid but only the surface does. On the other hand, it's not such good news for your water pipes. This expansion often results in burst pipes and plumbing repairs. Thankfully there are measures you can take to prevent this from occurring. Insulate your pipesEnsure your pipes are properly insulated. This is particularly important if they're exposed to cold air in places like the garage or attic. Make sure the entire pipe is covered. Even a small exposed area could result in water freezing and a burst occurring further along the length of the pipe. Often, it's not the frozen area of pipe that bursts but it happen...

Controlling sound can present a large problem in any setting. In a health care environment, controlling noise becomes an even larger problem, as concerns about patient privacy and well-being enter the equation. While these steps are primarily designed to minimize voice transmission, they also help with incidental and mechanical noise. For Los Angeles Speech Pathologist, Odelia Mirzadeh of OMIX Therapies in Beverly Hills, CA, sound masking is critical since some of her patients have autism spectrum disorder. FlooringUse carpeting instead of tile, wood, or vinyl floors. While being more difficult to clean and prone to staining, carpet deadens sounds far better than the other options, which can actually cause sounds to become amplified by echoing off the floor. One option to consider is car...
