Running and Business       This past weekend, the Rock N Roll Marathon tour came to Los Angeles, CA with a 5k & Half Marathon run through downtown LA.  Thanks to the sponsorship by Synchrony Financial, I was invited by a friend employed at Synchrony to run the half marathon.  This invitation came back in August, with plenty of time to get in shape for a 13.1 mile race.  "Sure".        2 months never went by so quickly.  August, September, and October have been really great for my business, and while there are plenty of rewards as a result, one big downside was (coupled with a few nagging injuries) a lack of training time and lots of time strapped to an office chair.  In case you're not familiar with endurance running, it may be noted that sitting on a chair is not one of the most highly...

Just wanted to get my feet wet.Had my doubts that I'd even be able to keep up with the "tide" (a.k.a. Real Estate). Now that I 've experienced over 20 transactions ~ each one bringing something new to "shore" ~ Can I dry my feet off yet?~ Not exactly ~Need several more years of drifting & going with the tide to get my "sea legs." Unfortunately, not every new "sailor" feels this way.It is hard to swallow that Big Pill labeled "IDK" (I Don't Know) and ask the Captain (a.k.a Broker) for assistance. My advice:  Even after 20 voyages, continue to get support.  Your "passengers" desire and deserve no less. Yes, my feet are wet ~ but that does not give me the license to navigate these waters solo.

What I Learned This Week At ActiveRain-October 30 - November 5, 2016. I learn something new every day at ActiveRain!  With this series, I try to highlight one post per day that gave me that “lightbulb” moment.  It could be something techie, something about Real Estate, about a place or person!  Or it could be a post that made me sit up and take notice! October 30: Dick Greenberg   The Grab Bag- Jigsaw, Life Hacks, Sunday Funnies and Weird TwitterDick’s Grab Bag is always entertaining but he introduced me to a new character that scared the bejabbers out of me. October 31: Tammy Adams Is Your Ego Getting in the Way of Your Small Business's SuccessWe all suffer from a little of our ego rearing its ugly head. Stay in Touch Till You’re Told to Stay Away! Some of you know I do not like calling expireds when they first expire in MLS. These poor sellers get bombarded with every real estate agent and not so very happy the day after their home becomes an “Expired Listing”. Also, most of them identify their next agent long before expiration.I do however send letters, market updates, postcards to those who expired three months and beyond. I send a letter to the sellers of an expired listing June 2015. Their home was listed for six months and expired January 2015.My first mail piece was a market update, three weeks after the first letter, I send them a handwritten card asking if they received my first mail and included a $10.00 Starbucks gift card. I did not include my business card with the note card...

As real estate agents, I suspect that if we put a clear price on our actions and inactions we might be shocked at what we'd find out.Now there's a lot of variables, what ifs and maybes that go into this, but as a business, even when we're a business of one person, we need to be aware of what does and doesn't work and what things cost.We can look at our credit card statement and see some clear costs, well defined and no argument about it: web hosting IDX service MLS dues hardware for our business (signs, and lockboxes) There might even be some small price vampires, services we tried and used and stopped using and never canceled. But what about the things that aren't so blatant?  The things with hidden costs that just might be taking a big chunk out of your annual earning potential?  For...

We all want success in our business. To accomplish this you must have enough customers to buy into the service offered. Before you begin, time must be spent identifying who your customers will be. Every associate has a target in mind and like snowflakes, no two are identical. Everyone is a potential customer although evaluating them as your target market will take some effort. You must ask yourself who are my most likely customers? Then tailor your marketing and services to that particular group of customers. Defining Customers is an Important Requirement? Your perception of who those customers are will enhance the chances of your business success. By definition your targeting can create a higher demand for your services. Provide the direction on how to tailor your services to fit the ...

If you’re planning a lengthy road trip, there are many things you’d never think to bring with you that could get you out of a crisis situation. You need way more than just that blanket in the trunk, car jack and spare tire, umbrella, rainproof poncho, utility tool and fire extinguisher.Weather Sunglasses, sunscreen, wide brimmed hat Cold climate: thermal underwear, wool/hat/scarf/mittens, chemical heat packs, snow boots, windshield de-icer, cat litter (cheaper and lighter than sand, will give traction to a vehicle stuck in snow/ice) Accident/Vehicle Breakdown Flares, reflective warning triangles “Call Police” sign. This goes against the rear window with the message facing motorists approaching from behind. If a predator sees a stranded female motorist, he’ll be tempted to stop and assau...

You’ll need home insurance, we sometimes experience some intense weather, and of course, the ubiquitous, know your price range. But at Records Results, we approach our relationship with you a bit differently. Sure, it’s important to know the basics about buying a home. Still, you can find information like the above just about anywhere, and in reality, that advice applies to numerous places in the country. After all, along with the common considerations, you also want to know what you should think about for our specific area. Well, you’re in luck, because my team isn’t composed of ...

I grew up in a western suburb of Denver, Colorado in the years immediately following the end of World War II. My generation are known as baby boomers. We are now or soon will be retired - my how time flies.  Like so many children of my generation, I would watch Walt Disney's Disneyland on Sunday night. Walt Disney would introduce each show to let us know a bit about what we were about to see. Walt was like a kindly old uncle who shared programs featuring animals, kids, cartoons, and folk heroes.  A few years ago I wrote a blog after Fess Parker's death was announced. He played Davy Crockett who was introduced to my generation on Disneyland. Wikipedia informs me that there were just five one-hour episodes which played between 1954 - 1955. Those five episodes showed the world the power of...

Fantastic curb appeal is extremely important and can make your home easier to sell. Have you spent countless hours and tens of thousands of dollars remodeling the interior of your home? If so, it probably looks spectacular! But how will you entice prospective buyers to become excited about seeing the inside of your home if the exterior looks shabby and neglected? Many homeowners are so consumed with perfecting the inside of their home that they forget about the concept of Curb Appeal. The condition of the inside of your home is certainly significant, but the image the outside of your home portrays is just as important.Buyers Typically See the Exterior of a Home FirstWhen prospective buyers start searching for Castlewood Ranch homes for sale, they typically start by either driving by home...

First-time and single women homebuyers have resurfaced in the real estate market, contributing to a significant share of transactions in a year marked by full-steam-ahead sales, according to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) 2016 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers survey. First-time homebuyer sales rose to a share of 35 percent, the survey found; single women homebuyer sales rose to 17 percent.“Young adults are settling down and deciding to buy a home after what was likely a turbulent beginning to their adult life and career following the Great Recession,” says Lawrence Yun, NAR chief economist. “Demand increased over the past year because of a robust job market for those with a college degree and renter fatigue at a time when homeowners continue to see their equity rise.
