If writing about local restaurants, theaters, attractions and events isn't what you want to do with your blog, I'm NOT here to tell you that you need to or have to do that to be very successful. Everyone has their own style, their own connections to their community and feels differently about what they put in their space. BUT if you do write about local businesses and attractions in your blog and highlight some great festivals in your area and you're not taking this next step you could seriously be missing out on some good juju.I have written posts about camping around Lake Sinclair a few times.  I always send a link to the campgrounds.  I've even taken the time to print out my blog post and drop it off at the campground to let them see that I've written about them. Recently I was by on...

What is “good business sense?” It’s nothing more than common sense applied to business situations.  It’s having flexibility with ways and methods of performing standard business tasks.  It’s knowing where the line is drawn and not crossing the line but coming very close!!What is require for an agent to have the “confidence” in his/her ability for that to happen?  Oh wait, I just answered that question within the question!!  The agent needs confidence in his/her strength within the business to move close to the line. How close do you come to the line without ever touching it? Is this another scenario that equates to “thinking out of the box?”  Oh, how I hate that box.  However, if there’s a way out of that box, I want to create a path that I’m comfortable executing.  How do you think?  Do...

One Step At a Time (Advice for Loan Officers)       Scotsman Guide is one of the most well know publications in the mortgage world - I was fortunate enough to contribute to the April 2016 edition of the print & digital magazine.  While I can't reproduce the article in it's entirety here (yet) , you can give it a read at the link below.  I'd love to get some feedback from loan officers (or anyone else) here in the rain.  Scotsman Guide Mortgage Advice

Feeling Stressed? Then Set Boundaries And Create HabitsMAYBE I HAD A TAD TOO MUCH PROTEIN IN MY DRINK!!Well I done good. I posted my 1st blog article in a couple of years on Wednesday and folks actually saw it!! That’s always the first step in having a successful blog. At least that’s what they say. Not sure who “they” are but I’m sure it’s the truth because I read it online.  Anyway this article is not about blogging. It’s about setting boundaries in your business and your life. It’s about taking care of yourself first so that you are your best to be able to help others. We can only give others what we have. So it’s important, at least to me, to be as strong as I can be in all aspects of  my life. My goal everyday is to take steps  forward, spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionall...

It is always nice when someone stops YOU on the street to ask for real estate advice. It really doesn't matter whether something tangible comes out of it right there and then, but it is something that we can follow up on.Often these brief conversations are about something that this person is contemplating and needs a little clarity. Usually, I just let them talk so that I get enough information.AND THEN I FOLLOW UP IN WRITINGThat stop on the street was, after all, accidential. Would they have talked to another agent if he/she had come across their path? Who knows, but they stopped YOU.It's too easy to discount these accidential meetings, after all, they talked about something they plan to do in the future.BUT THE FUTURE STARTS NOWThe real estate business is a very personalized one. It i...

It is a good round number that lands nearly a quarter of the way into the first year of the first term, enough time to get a good start, and yet early enough in the term to make necessary adjustments where needed without wasting time in areas that are a poor investment of our energy. Wise business people also use this important measure to do a checkup and make adjustments where needed. In this month’s challenge this will be the only requirement for a focused blog post. I divide my weeks between our electrical company and our real estate brokerage. Actually, I'm rarely in the electrical field,  but when I am, it's critical that I be there, and it's good to see the quality of work my son is doing for the company. He really is the best technician that has ever worked with me. Yesterday, I received a call from a past client who started out sort of aggressive, which is always out of character for the people who hire us. He was complaining that something we did two years ago has never worked since we were there. What? That isn't possible. No employee of mine would have ever left a jobsite with a problem that wasn't squared away. The client said his wife told him that we left the job saying that the non-working issues would never work. I told him that we wou...

Have you ever read a posting or comment, paused and then wondered what others may think of what you just read or seen? You should. More and more taking place today, is the reality of what one does or says and how it sticks around or affects others not just now, but in times to come. Today's activity may be tomorrows faux pas or worse still... a contradiction!WHOA THERE!I cringe when I read about anyone who is professional revealing profession secrets, thoughts or even making derogatory remarks and not just to their peers, but even to and about the public at large. The choice to take a position on something needs some responsible pausing...SEE FOR YOURSELFFor a taste of this phenomenon, go back in time and read some of your own postings and comments. You will see what held up, made sense...

Asheville Real Estate Journal and Newsy News Asheville is the incredible place I home-and you can call it home, too. The other day, our dog and I took a walk along the French Broad River.  We were exploring places along the river – land, and homes on the land- that are currently available for you. Close in, such places are priced well. However, a little further out – say 15 or 20 min. from downtown Asheville, you might still find a relative bargain with a view like this- that any kayaker and/or fisher-person might relish.  Let me know if you agree. I think this might be just the place where you can live independently for years to come with a view that changes and inspires you each day. By the way, there's more information on aging in place just below.

God Made a Realtor .“And on the eighth day, God looked down on his planned paradise, and said, ‘I need a caretaker.’ So God made a Realtor.God said I need somebody that will get up before dawn with the dedication of the sun, risk time, energy, and investment for no salary or guarantee.  Work long hours on the street, prepare and deliver presentations, serve and attend to others emergencies,  then stay out past midnight at a meeting of the school board. So God made a RealtorGod needed somebody mentally tough that could wake up unemployed everyday yet gentle enough to have compassion for others.  Someone that could build a bridge between people and technology.Someone who arrived home nightly in the dark to accommodate others time, tell them thank you for the opportunity and mean it.So God...

I am willing to overlook the untimely and ridiculous statements coming from all candidates of a personal nature, character attacks, non politically correct responses, unrehearsed opinio...

An anthropologist was assigned to Borneo, where he found a guide with a canoe to take him up the river to the remote site where he would make his collections. At noon on the second day of travel up the river they began to hear drums."What are those drums?" asked the anthropologist, knowing he was in cannibal country. The guide turned to him and said "No worry. Drums OK, but very bad when they stop."They both went ghostly pale when the drums suddenly stopped. The guide crouched in the belly of the canoe and covered his ears. "Do as I do! Very important!""intoned the guide with great urgency. "Why? What does this mean?" asked the panicked anthropologist. "Drums stop! Next come guitar solo!"    .

We're really not playing an April Fool’s Day joke, guess what? It’s finally Spring time! Are you a gardener, camper, DIY’er, herbalist, biker or hiker? You’ve been itching to get outdoors for months, and now you finally can!April, the month were everyone realizes winter is finally over. For some of us it means we can safely get outside and not worry about the weather being too cold to enjoy our outdoor activities. For others we are overjoyed we can finally hit that “Spring Cleaning” list we made in the dead of winter, just dreaming about when we might make them a reality. Spring cleaning has been the time most of us give the inside of our homes a thorough cleaning and let the fresh outdoor air inside. But now it is no longer just the inside of our homes we think about. Spring cleaning h...

It may be hereditary as well. It's called the "Butfirst Syndrome."It's like when I decide to do the laundry - I start down hall and notice the newspaper on the table. Okay, I'm going to do the laundry -Butfirst I'm going to read the newspaper. After that, I notice the mail on the table. Okay, I'll just put the newspaper in the recycle stack...Butfirst, I'll look through that pile of mail and see if there are any bills to be paid. Now where's the checkbook? Oops! There's the empty glass from yesterday on the coffee table. I'm going to look for that checkbook,Butfirst I need to put the glass in the sink. I head for the kitchen...
