I just read a story about a woman in Chicago who just turned 100 years old and didn’t retire from her job until she was 99 year old. She said the reason she never retired was because she loved what she was doing at her job, felt needed and appreciated. In an era where age is increasingly seen as just a number, the traditional stereotypes associated with the elderly are being shattered. Today's octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians are not just reminiscing about the past; they're actively shaping the present and future. From the courtroom to the comedy stage, from TikTok to the golf course, and even in our very own neighborhoods, they are redefining what it means to age gracefully. Personal Stories:   Jo and Doreen, The Pillars of the NeighborhoodJo, at 93, is a testament to the...

Got a great night's sleep, and ready to tackle the day!   Started out raining, so had breakfast at the hotel.   Had coffee in my room, but it was instant coffee!   NO WAY, had to go to the restaurant and get a real cup. There are TV shows that are in English, with Portugese subtitles, so was able to watch a movie before sleeping.Lisbon has a population of 3 million, then you have all the tourists!  OH MY, it is quite bustling, and the traffic is tough to maneuver.   It took 1.5 hours to go 5 miles from the airport.   You stop at every light!Today ventured south across the bridge to Sesimbra, and WOW, I could live there part-time!  SO beautiful, and everything you would expect from a European city.   High above the City is Sesimbra Castle that was built somewhere around 1165.  Atlantic Oc...

Picture this: you’re eager to sell your home and you want everything to go just right, a quick offer and closing top dollar and not hassles? Believe it or not, many homeowners and real estate agents swear by various traditions, beliefs and rituals to get that much-desired sale. Let’s take a look at some popular beliefs home sellers may turn to to get their house sold. The Power of the Red Door: More Than Just Aesthetic There's more to the red door superstition than meets the eye. In various cultures, a red door isn’t merely an aesthetic choice; it’s steeped in tradition and belief. History & Belief: In some cultures red symbolizes good luck, fortune, and positivity. It’s no wonder then that many homeowners believe a red door can attract prosperity and favorable deals. Meanwhile, in earl...

How about a gardening tip?  If you saw my yard at the moment you would say “from you?”  My yard is a mess, yanked out all the shrubbery in front of the house and cut down my palms.  The back is a mess due to the addition and I am giving gardening tips.I do not like using certain chemicals to kill grass and weeds, they shall remain nameless.  I use a very simple mixture of 1 gallon of vinegar, 1 cup of salt and a squirt of Dawn dish washing soap.  So, for a few bucks I mix it in my garden sprayer and hit the pavers and the cracks in the driveway.  Vinegar kills grass and weeds, the salt gives it a lasting effect, Dawn makes it stick and the next day you see things turning brown.  I spray maybe 4 or 5 times a year and no harsh chemicals into the environment. Those little pesky ant mounds y...

Today is Closing Day at 1320 Dulverton DR in Frisco. To the Seller and the Buyers, I wish peace, happiness, good health, and prosperity. Finding the right style one-story home that is architecturally pleasing with good curb appeal has to pass the first test. Location is always a high priority. When the price is right and everyone comes to an agreement, a new phase of life is already beginning for all parties to the contract. Marketing, advertising, and internet research has made information about what is for sale particularly valuable to prospective home buyer observers. One never really knows how long they will stay. For that reason, it is important to maintain the property's value. A good HOA helps the neighborhood. Buyers know schools may be desirable, but finding the right fit for y...

Don't Expect A Tidlewave Of ForeclosuresThe cost of things like food and gas is going up, and some people are worried that they won't be able to afford their mortgage payments. This could lead to a lot of foreclosures, which is when the bank takes a house away from the homeowner. However, experts say that a flood of foreclosures is unlikely. One reason is that lending standards have tightened, so people who are buying homes are more likely to be able to afford them.Another reason is that the number of homeowners who are seriously behind on their mortgage payments is declining. This means that most people are making their mortgage payments on time, so there is not a large number of people who are at risk of foreclosure. So, if you're worried about a potential flood of foreclosures, there's...

Destin Florida Real Estate Advice- Why Are Insurance Rates Increasing? These days Destin Florida single family home and condo buyers are receiving sticker shock when getting insurance quotes. Given all the potential perils that property faces, insurance is a must (not to mention the lender will likely require). Let's examine some of the factors causing the increased rates and some things the consumer can do to get the most for their insurance buying buck. Some factors causing rates to rise1) Inflation in general- These days EVERYTHING is more expensive. The Fish tacos I had on Tuesday were twelve bucks back in 2019. This week's trip butchered an entire twenty dollar bill. 2) The cost of recent natural disasters--As mentioned above, everything is more expensive including building material...
