“I think goals should never be easy. They should force you to work, even If they are uncomfortable at the time.”

MICHAEL PHELPS

Anytime of year is a good time to create a vision board but we feel especially fresh and inspired to do it at the beginning of the new year! Visualization is known to be effective by training your brain, therefore changing your actions! But where to start? Here are a few key steps when creating your vision board:

  1. Self reflect and decide what your short and long term goals are.
  2. Gather what you need to create
  3. Decide how you want to structure your board

The structure of your board may also be broken down into categories. So what should you include on your board? Here are five categories you should have on your vision board:

  1. Relationships

Relationships have such an impact on our lives that they should be a priority for our board. Friends, family, spouse, children–whatever/whoever you need to focus on for the year should be highlighted on your board.

“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”

– CHINESE PROVERB

  1. Finance

This could also be listed as wealth. A money vision board can help make your dreams into reality. Whether you have set your sights on being debt free, buying your first house, or stepping out as a successful entrepreneur, a finance vision board can make the difference.

  1. Physical Health

Physical health is probably the most common category on a vision board but the least successful goal. So be sure to set yourself up for success by making your health goals specific, realistic and measurable. For example, if you want to work on core strength, having a photo of toned legs on your board won’t be effective.

“Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.”

  1. Personal Growth

You can’t have a great year without a little growth so don’t forget this goal! Personal development can look like spiritual goals, habits you want to form, creating daily routines, reading more, etc.

  1. Fun

What’s life without a little fun?! This category can be as broad as you like as long as it’s specific to your personal goals. For example, if you love crocheting but never have the time you may want to put a photo of a finished project that you want done or a set amount of time displayed that you’ll carve out for your hobby.

Remember to create a board that works for you so it may be a physical board, a digital wallpaper, journal or worksheet. And remember to look at it daily so you are reminded to focus on your goals consistently! There’s a lot of freedom you can take to create a board, but be sure to include these five categories to set yourself up for success!

“You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction.”

– GEORGE LORIMER

I think I would concentrate on Family relationships and health this year with my daughter's wedding coming up in November.  Time to start the wedding diet!
