Are You Working On or In Your Business?  I work and live for my lifestyle. I made tough choices and many poor choices throughout my life. At a very early age, due to some very bad things that happened to me, I decided I would not allow others tell me how I can live or what I can do.  That decision however empowering it was did not actually take fruition into my personal life until 50 years later. But in my business life, by the time I was 18, I had control over who I would work for, which was only ever going to be myself.  Deciding to own your own business is in my opinion, the best decision you can make. It gives you control over your destiny. It allows you to be creative, to innovate, and to help others. When you become a real estate agent, you are opening up your own business. You ar...

Back in my Navy days my last job was as the ship's Ordnance Officer.  Guns, missiles, associated radars and the men that kept them running were my responsibility.  If you're a young man in his early 20s, could there be a better job on a ship than to stand out on the bridge wing as a practice missile went WOOOSH off the rail to chase down its target? Now many moons later, what passes for excitement in my life is of a far different (and less combustible) variety.  Sometimes it's good, other times it's more of a "something fell down and went BOOM!".  The latter can be a test of preparedness and flexibility.Recently our MLS service provider didn't so much fall down as they got pushed by some ransomware hackers.  Net effect, MLS went down hard with no clear estimate as to when (or if) service...

I have been sitting on this story for a while, it was announced back in May that Hooters is looking for three (3) yes THREE locations to open THREE of their famous restaurants in The Villages.  Hooters has been in business for 40 years and started in Clearwater so very local, today around 50 Hooters just in the state of Florida.  From the Hooters website:“The recipe for a good timeSometimes you hit on a big idea by accident—just by putting the stuff you love all in one place. Craveable food, cold beer, and all the sports you could possibly watch on wall-to-wall big screen TVs. And let’s not forget the Hooters Girls. (Long & Foster Real Estate Inc 610-225-7400)
We were very lucky Friday evening to get admission to Longwood Garden to see the fountain show. Since that evening Longwood has been closed due to an escaped murder from the Chester County Jail nearby. There is a major search been going on over the weekend with roads shut down and law enforcement on the ground and in the air searching for this escaped prisoner. That being said, we felt very lucky to have been able to enjoy the display Friday evening. The fountains have recently been renovated and improved with many more lights, techniques for creating different water displays, such as leaping water that looks and reminds you of fireworks being fired all in combination to the music being played. Friday the theme was classic rock, and the music and the water displays were fabulous. What was...

Have you ever wondered how inflation impacts the housing market? Believe it or not, they’re connected. Whenever there are changes to one, both are affected. Here’s a high-level overview of the connection between the two.The Relationship Between Housing Inflation and Overall InflationShelter inflation is the measure of price growth specific to housing. It comes from a survey of renters and homeowners that’s done by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). The survey asks renters how much they’re paying in rent, and homeowners how much they’d rent their homes for, if they weren’t living in them.Much like overall inflation measures the cost of everyday items, shelter inflation measures the cost of housing. And for four consecutive months, based on that survey, shelter inflation has been comin...

Even though activity in the housing market has slowed from the frenzy that was the ‘unicorn’ years, it’s still a seller’s market because the supply of homes for sale is so low. But what does that really mean for you? And why are conditions today so good if you want to sell your house? The latest Existing Home Sales Report from the National Association of Realtors (NAR) shows housing supply is still astonishingly low. Housing inventory is measured by the number of available homes on the market. It’s also measured by months’ supply, meaning the number of months it would take to sell all those available homes based on current demand. In a balanced market, there’s usually about a six-month supply. Today, we have only about 3 months’ supply of homes at the current sales pace (see graph below)...

Good morning Activerain members!  I thought since I am back to the rain and I came across Lew Corcoran's 30 Day Real Estate Social Media Challenge, that I should participate!  I am starting a few days late but will try to catch up over the next few days.  Since I have been away for a while I think this is a great opportunity to re-introduce myself.I have been a real estate agent since 1987 so over 35 years now!  It's hard for me to believe.  I started at a time that the market was tough and I have been through many ups and downs in the real estate market through the years.  I have seen very high interest rates, REO's, short sales, very low interest rates, very hot markets and very slow markets.  Each market seems to have its own challenges and I have been able to meet those challenges a...
