The climate is constantly changing albeit slowly. As we go through a warm cycle some will Iive to see a cold cycle. In the meantime live where you like.

Good morning, Bob. Interesting question and I enjoyed the video. When we made a decision to move from New York City my criteria for a new places excluded places with risk of earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, mud slides, etc. I get that Wisconsin might be one of the safest places in the USA... but neither my husband nor I wanted to live again where winters were long, cold, and dark. I've been to Wisconsin in winter months more than once (Racine, Milwaukee, Green Bay) ... I'd rather take my risk with some heat.

That man thinks they can have any real effect on the planet is extreme ego.  When they stop giving China and India a free pass to pollute to their heart's content, then maybe I'll see this as something other than an attack on Western society and it's people.

I echo Mr. Wayne Martin. The climate is constantly changing.

There may be other reasons people live where they live and climate may not be a factor simply because other issues are more important.

I've wondered why people stay in places that flood out (or come back to them after they've been washed out). What I think is that people are willing to put up with risk if they are in a place that meets all their other needs. Or if they can't afford to move elsewhere.

As a retiree, I could move anywhere I want, and I have done more than a little research. There are many things to consider. Extreme weather is one of them, and I would never choose to move to an area like that. I think many people get ingrained in where they live due to family and friend connections. and, of course, work. It's "home". It's hard to give that up and start over.

No place is perfect, including where I live. But, all things considered, I haven't found a better place... so here I stay until I discover something better.

This is our first full summer in AZ with temperatures above 110 most of the days.  It has not stopped me from playing pickleball each morning (sometimes until about 1230).  I have been amazed at how the courts are still full.  I think we all adapt.  When it gets to be too much for me, I hit the movie theater, grocery store or some other cool place. I will not be moving back!

It's called summer months here in Arizona.  And it's sometimes hot, which is quite normal for us from time to time in the summer months.  BTW there are far more people that die from  cold weather than from the hot weather.  And overall - due to innovations over the years far less people die from cold or heat.

I've lived through several hurricanes (operative word is that I lived) and a tornado in the Bahamas. What's important to me is to be near my family in Texas. I don't see  moving to follow the climate, especially at my point in life.

Yeah, I'm tired of the building boom and massive migration to the 'surface of the Sun' here from other states! You'll DIE from the HEAT, which will KILL US ALL IN 5 MORE YEARS! Don't you watch the MSM-a-ganda? Here be dragons! Turn back!

Healthy people survive the occasional broken AC . . . unhealthy folks should not live here.

I'd die of depression living in the cold and humidity of the East, SE and midwest!

I found the video rather slanted. At the 2 minute mark (see screenshot below) they state "the most deadly weather in the US is extreme cold" BUT the video only addresses projections about risk due to heat and related factors. Few facts are given, it is all based on projections.

A fair and balanced assessment would be to show the negatives and positives of ALL climates in all areas of the country, especially since extreme cold is the most deadly.

I lived in the cold, arctic north for 37 years before moving to Florida and still vividly recall the blizzards, power outages (no heat for those with electric in sub zero temperatures), and one month in particular where the HIGH never hit above zero, etc. In Florida people are equipped for power outages due to thunderstorms and many have generators and other ways to cope with no a/c or power.

We moved to Florida when my husband had a job offer that was too good to pass up and flew down to check out the area before accepting. We learned that Cocoa Beach has never had a direct hit from a hurricane (still has not), is well located, there is good health care, etc. so we weighed all factors before moving. I don't know anyone who moved here for the climate, most were like us and move here for a great job opportunity.

Good question Bob Crane . I often ask myself what I am doing here in the frozen North land but it all comes down to familiarity for me. For North Dakotan's moving South I think it's more of an over reaction. They would be much better off to move a State or two South then to the bottom of the country.

I haven't heard too many people talk about it but I do occasionally have someone ask about hurricanes or ask where we get our water from. I've always lived in the SE and feel we have time to prepare for a hurricane.

We love where we live and it is hotter than heck in the summer and we have wildfires every summer, other than that we really don't have any other natural disasters. I don't think you will ever find the perfect place there will always be something to factor in taxes, prices, crime, cost of living, climate etc.

I think we will definitely see changes in "migration" patterns. Personally, I've always maintained that where we are in New England (not too far north),  just some snow and ice are a temporary inconvenience, otherwise we have no earthquakes, no hurricanes, no major tornadoes, no wildfires, no extreme heat or super floods (although the latter is changing somewhat!). Also, we have beautiful outdoor spaces, stunning beaches, gorgeous fall colors and a great deal of culture in nearby cities and around. Viva the North East!

Hurricanes in the south, fires in the west, floods in the northwest and plains, earthquakes in the west, frigid cold in the north, sinkholes in the south, tornadoes through the midwest

The world's a dangerous place, nature is powerful, and no matter where we live we're subject to some type of natural disaster or catastrophic event.  Best to live in a place that suits you most, I think.  For me, that's a place near mountains, rivers, or oceans - all areas susceptible to natural disaster, but for me, the risk is worth it.

I'm curious what's  a "dangerous" place? The whole country uses too much power & water. We act like it's an endless or unlimited supply. ACs set to 70. People watering grass.  How about no grass? No irrigation systems? Sorry, soap box.

Colorado, Chicago, Dakotas freeze. Arizona, Texas, & Florida can cook eggs on the roof top. When I told mom I plan to retire in Hawaii she expressed major concern with the volcanos & hurricanes. But like I told her, & this goes to your question, we're all going to die eventually so live where you can make the most of your life!

It's an incredibly complex topic- and I don't believe there will be any truly safe places - just places that will be safer than others. A couple of months ago Manhattan was covered in an eerie orange sky from Canadian wildfires- not something I had given a lot of thought to previously.  I had given lots of thought to flooding given all of the reports of a future where Manhattan is underwater. I bought in a neighborhood more than 100 ft above sea level, but then there will be days of torrential downpours and next thing I know is the videos going viral of the subway station 2 blocks away where the subway steps have turned into a cascading waterfall and the station is flooded. We are actively working to improve the likely outcomes of sea level rise and increased storm surges- but it's expensive, and one of many reasons why the metro area had a lot of people moving out. Interestingly enough- Manhattan is the only borough of NYC that has had a population increase in recent years. I have also seen the parks department adding trees on blocks that doesn't have trees at a quickening pace (a continuation of a Bloomberg era plan to add a million trees to the city to help with cooling and cleaner air).

I think you are right- at some point the trend reverses itself- unless these areas take rapid and dramatic action to reverse their fate.

I actually emailed a client yesterday about climate change related issues. The client is seeking an investment property at a budget that's often too low to work with. I know most of the apartment addresses that are likely to come up in the next year that fit the clients budget- most of which are only a few feet above sea level- and a nasty storm surge could hit these buildings hard. I can still help the client- but the likely options will be cut in half by eliminating a just a few addresses that have high climate change risk elements.

When the power is out, there is risk of freezing to death in some of the colder states. People live pretty much everywhere, whether that be the arctic or the deserts of the world. We adapt according to the weather.
