Flower Season is Way Too Short

Flower season is way too short.

Every April and May in Bourbonnais, Illinois we get an amazing blast of color thanks to the wide and assorted collection of flowers that bloom seemingly all at once. These flowers make real-life paintings in everyone's gardens and flower beds. Having a job where I get to visit homes and enjoy these beautiful gardens all over our area is a bonus that I don't take for granted.

Finding such beauty in what otherwise may be a very dull and drama free inspection and turns it into a perfect opportunity to snap a few pictures that will ultimately end up in a folder on my computer that is titled "Beauty Shots."

The picture above shows a really cool view of my inspection vehicle as seen through a pink crab apple tree from on top of the roof I was inspecting. This doesn't really show the damage that can be caused by a tree scraping the top of the shingles. That was different picture.

This picture doesn't have any flowers. It's a rock garden made with limestone rocks that originally came from a quarry in the city limits of Kankakee, IL.

Tulips are my favorite flower. I just wish they stayed around a little longer than 2-3 weeks. There are so many stunning varieties and colors that just seem to explode in early spring with an endless assortment of colors. I planted a bunch of bulbs this spring so maybe next year there will be a tulip fest in our yard.

When our family first moved into our home in October of 2000, this Magnolia tree had already dropped it's leaves for the season. The following spring, we were able to see the flowering blooms, but they were only on the tree for about three days before the blooms fell off.

Enjoy the season while it lasts, unless you live in a permanently summer state. You are the lucky ones that don't have to deal with winter.

Hello Scott - for me, your post is an excellent reminder of enjoying the moment as well as understanding where you can find that moment.  It blooms in different ways and for very different reasons.

Oh my goodness, your Magnolia blooms are perfectly gorgeous, Scott! What a great blend of color in your yard and I love the limestone planter - how cool is that?!

Wayne Martin and I agree wholeheartedly with you about tulips - they're so very pretty but, just don't last long enough. They are very similar to azalea in that regard.

Thanks for sharing your landscape beauties with us in this month's challenge.

Hi Scott- I hear what you're saying. When we lived in FL we had beautiful flowers all year. Houston isn't that bad but we do look froward to the springtime when we get to see beautiful buds popping out on the trees.
