Furry Friends Friday - You Asked for It - Gabby Before & After

For those with dogs who require grooming, you will understand the trepidation and sheer stress that goes into that first grooming appointment. While we have been using this groomer our last 3 dogs, this new one was a furry mess before I got brave enough to take her in!

Gabby is SO small and I worried about her not doing well at the groomer. She had been a challenge since day-1 to bathe, brush and detangle. She doesn't like it one little bit!

She gleefully met the staff at the groomer's shop but, her excitement quickly waned, according to the groomer! First off, she hated being bathed! Yep, we knew that. Then, she hated the dryer - so they had to let her air dry...and that was a LOT of fur to air dry!  And, of course, just as she is at home, she hated being combed and detangled.

So, they put the trimmer to work and found that she did pretty well with it. Instead of taking her back in two weeks for a 'full cut,' since she didn't mind the trimmer too much, I told them to go ahead and take it all off - and they did!

We were so happy to see the end results and it really did energize her. I don't know if it was because all of that hair was a lot to carry around or if she just enjoyed the attention but, she was the house 'priss' when she arrived home!

Maddie didn't know what on earth to think of her! She went with me to go pick up Gabby at the groomer's and she held her head pretty high that she was able to walk in and walk out without having to 'be the patient' there!

Kudos to Grateful Paws in Belmont, NC for their infinite patience with all of our dogs. They saw our first two through their senior years and all that went along with arthritic legs, hot spots, Cushing's Disease and even an achilles tendon tear.

They were wonderful then and are wonderful now with our two super small dogs who simply DO NOT like to be groomed! They are a challenge and the staff never complain. In fact, yesterday they phoned me every step of the way to let me know how Gabby was doing. I can't thank them enough for their care and professionalism and HIGHLY recommend them.

Good morning Debe,

It sounds like Grateful Paws knows how to groom the larger fur babies as well as the tiny ones! A big shout to them for a job well done and Maddie looks beautiful!

It is so wonderful to find Vets, Vet Techs, and groomers who know what they are doing and treat the fur babies like their own children.

That flat out lay on the floor is a HOOT!

Hello Debe = "Sheared Stress" may have been anticipated for Gabby as grooming day approached.  She seems to have survived and is back to thriving in all her glory.

Finding the right pet groomer can be chore.  You cut out those who don't qualify and you (and your furry friend) obviously came out on top.

Thank you, Dorie Dillard Austin TX! they really do! I am always in awe at the huge dogs that come in/out when we're there to pick-up. They run the gamut on dogs for grooming!

YES! You totally understand that stress, Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist! I remember one of my worst days, finding out that my mobile groomer was moving out of state - to New York! Finding someone to care for my older dogs was so stressful but, I got great recommendations on Grateful Paws and I've since referred them to a ton of dog lovers!

And, that sprawl is priceless! I think she enjoys actually 'feeling' the floor and not having a dust mop between her and the floor! LOL

Too funny, Michael Jacobs but, spell-check told me to change 'sheer' to 'shear' and I got a chuckle out of possibly using that as a 'pun-intended' moment in the post! LOL

Yes, she survived and is so full of herself now! I wonder if all that hair weighed her down! I did weigh her this morning and she didn't lose anything since I last weighed her. I wish I had done that yesterday to compare!

As to choosing a groomer - yes, there is a lot of research that goes into that. I had the same one for years and when she moved to NY, I was SO sad. Thanks to some great referrals, I narrowed it down to Grateful Paws and they've proven to be even more amazing than my former groomer.

Debe- thank you for sharing the "After" photo of Gabby!!!  I had to see what was under all of that hair!!!  Those groomers have such patience as well as skill since not every dog willfully goes to the groomers. I remember when my grandfather gave my dog Prissy a trim. She was so upset by it, she walked 3 blocks to my aunt's house to pout. My aunt had to call us to let us know she was there.

Can you tell I'm smiling ear to ear seeing Gabby's after photo!  She's so cute.  I'd be concerned to taking her for her 1st time.  Thankfully she got through it pretty good.  And I love the 'prancing' around afterwards - Norman does that same thing and he feels pretty special.  Barney not so much - he used to be but he's gotten so old  (as well ad blind and deaf) he's afraid of going now but we still take him.  They've learned to get around his fears like your groomer did for Gabby.
