Friday Flags in Southington CT Spring Lake VillageWhile showing a client a condo in Spring Lake Village earlier this week, I had to pass the community center.Adjacent to the lake where the flag poles and there was just a small breeze, and the flags were barely moving.I didn't have time to stop but was determined to come back before I left the complex.  On the swing back, I parked and walked closer and just stood and whispered for a breeze that would give me the shot I wanted. Within minutes, my wish was granted, and our flag waved a thank you to me for waiting. The buyer is still deciding but most likely will come back as Spring Lake Village is one of the finer 55+ communities in the area. There are over 600 units, but they are so spread out as to not feel congested. I'm sure the residen...

The gig economy has been around a lot longer than the term, which was coined in 1915, according to some sources. While the gig economy has been growing for decades, the pandemic saw a boom in the number of traditional 9-5ers shifting to self-employment and business ownership. The IRS has noticed the shift to gig work, freelancing and self-employment, and their auditors and agents are increasingly focusing on those brand-new small business owners. Taxpayers, holding a traditional job that issues a W-2, have less than a 1% chance of getting a notice from the IRS; the audit rate is on the rise for small business owners. And if you work in the gig economy that means you too.The rising audit rate for small business owners is certainly cause for concern. If you’re being audited by the IRS or ...

Friday Flags in Southington CTThis week, my flag sight caught a waving banner on the town green in Southington CT. It was proudly waving atop a tall pole along with a flag for missing POWs.For 2 weekends at the end of September, there will be thousands of people walking along these streets for the Southington CT Apple Harvest Festival. This should be their 55th year. There will be a full schedule of events including a parade. My favorite will be the apple fritters that will be sold daily.Friday Flags in Southington CT

Friday Flags: A Place of Honor in Central CTOn a drive, in state this week, a sign made me take a detour to a memorial I have seen many times in the past. The signpost read Iwo Jima Highway, and I remembered the Iwo Jima Memorial that occupies a place of honor near the campus of Central CT State University.I don't know how accurate the sign may be that describes it as a National Memorial, but the base of the statue shows the names of the Connecticut servicemen that lost their lives on Iwo Jima during World War II.The battle to take the islands was the fiercest in the pacific and cost almost 7,000 US marines and Navy personnel. At the end of the battle, a squad of Marines raised the flag atop Mt Suribachi, which was the inspiration for the completion of the battle. There wasn't much wind, ...
