How to Have a Smooth Move…Tip #1
Once your home has sold, your “Moving” list begins and grows every day. Will you be hiring a moving company? Will you do your own packing or use professional packers?
Having moved at least 10 times, my tips come from my own mistakes and what I’ve learned.
First...If you hire a moving company, you’ll want to ask how they calculate their fees. The more you have to move, the more you’ll have to pay,
There’s no reason to take what you don’t want, need or use anymore to your new home!
Begin EARLY If you’re hiring packers, don’t wait until they walk in the door to decide what to pack. They work quickly and start wrapping and packing as soon as they walk in the door.
If you’re planning on doing your own packing, you’ll still want to edit BEFORE you start to pack.
My tip is to take one area at a time. Begin with a drawer in your kitchen and have a trash bin on one side and a box for donating on the other.
Do the same with your pantry and closets. It’s a lot easier to pack if you’re not trying to decide what to keep while you’re packing!!!
If you have those “special” items, there’s no reason not to take them. I brought a hand-painted martini glass with me on our last move.
Most of us are collectors of things What you have to ask yourself is why you’re holding on to something. The key is to learn to control your treasures and not let them control you.
Recap…Tip#1- Don’t pay to move what you no longer need, use or want. Edit NOW!
