Preparedness has always been a top-of-mind thought around here . . . we are due south of two dams, and if someone hit either one we'd have about 20 minutes to get to higher ground - which is about how long it would take to get there.
Make your emergency plan, stock your bug-out bag with essential survival items, etc. that you'd need for a few days.
But what if the disaster is not an 'act of God' but of man?
Example: One good EMP could knock out a power grid. That's wayyy beyond 'an inconvenience'! And in case you think I'm wearing a tinfoil hat, Forbes Magazine recently published an article on the potential damage. Read it for yourself.
Some additional points:
Have COPIES of insurance policies, IDs and important paperwork (wills, trusts, deeds, etc.)
Be mindful of your pets. A good idea is to have a picture of you with your pet(s) just in case you are separated, to affirm ownership. Have pets microchipped and the information stored in hard copy for your bug-out bag.
Medications are important - see if your pharmacist/insurance/PCP can approve 60-90-180 days' worth of needed meds so you have backup there.
WATER.
And CASH. A good amount, if you can stash it.
Here are over 100 stock up items to consider having in case of an extreme emergency. No you may not need all, and city folks or HOAs may preclude having chickens, LOL . . . . but see if there are items on this long list that would make sense to have:
The author of this list is clearly 'an extreme prepper' and is also retired military and LEO . . . it's comprehensive indeed.
But the more prepared, the less need to worry.
