After a 2.5 hour drive from New York City to Madison, CT to provide a Feng Shui Consultation, I decided to explore the town a bit more and found a lovely gem called, " R.J. Julia Bookstore." Talk about great Feng Shui energy -- this store has it!! It was one of the first stores on the stripe that captured my attention and I entered immediately. And yes, I fell in love, and yes I read some books and yes I ate ate there cafe!! What a perfect way to end the day. This bookstore was bustling with so much activity. The photos I captures were of paused moments as this bookstore extends back and up.  Taking a closer look at the walls, you see hundreds of famous authors, celebrities, political, local and sports figures who have paid a visit to this independently owned bookstore for book signings...

On Saturday, March 7th, the Dog Days Adoption, Inc an nonprofit organization dedicated to finding homes for dogs living in shelters, will host the Dog Days Night Fundraiser For Rescue Dogs.  The fundraiser will be held at The Madison Beach Hotel in Madison, CT to support the Dog Days Adoption events & The Red Dog Project.  Everyone is invited to come and participate in a fun evening of food, auction, and music by the Cartells. The Dog Days Adoption, Inc is the only dog rescue organization in Connecticut which is contracted by the State to find homes for dogs in shelters and has inmate handlers for rehabilitation.  I am not a pet owner, but my oldest son and his wife have three rescue dogs, so I felt a need to try to spread the word for the Dog Days Night Fundraiser For Rescue Dogs.  ...

Madison Connecticut's Fireworks Display was Sunday night, July 3rd 2011. Madison CT town residents and people from all over the state flocked to the key spots around town to watch the 25 minute firework display. I watched the Madison Fireworks from the Madison Surf Club, and was able to watch from the beach right in front of the new Madison Beach Hotel (which should be open in a few months). While a few thousand close friends joined me at the Madison Surf Club, the crowds (and parking situation) were better than Hammonasset Beach State Park - which is much larger but gets more tourist and out-of-town traffic.   The video below of the finale to the Madison Fireworks was shot on a Kodak Zi8 from the beach at the Madison Surf Club. The edits and title were done with iMovie on a MacBook Pro...

My last two buyers only wanted to see homes with 1st floor master bedrooms ... yes they were early stage baby boomers. In our local market of Madison CT finding a home with a first floor master usually means a ranch or a cape style home and probably one that was built several years ago. ... in other words the supply is limited. The "Over 55" active adult home that feature a first floor master bedroom has not really appeared here yet probaby due to high land prices. There is an outside developer trying to build one such development here in town called "Madison Landing" however they have been held up for several years up by a local community group siting environmental concerns. So it you want to live along the shoreline in Madison CT in a home/condo with first floor master the choices are...

Do you ever wonder what those homes are worth when you're driving around town?  Below are a sampling from the roughly 230 single family properties that sold during 2007. To give you an indication of Madison's diverse housing stock I have chosen 30 homes from each end of the spectrum.  Modest homes start in the low 200's and several million dollars can be spent in prime neighborhoods.  The median sales price in 2007 for the town of Madison was about $525,000.  Half the residential properties sold for less and half for more.  Madison remains one of the most affluent towns in New Haven County. .Town / State Street NameBedroomsBathsSquare FeetSales Price         Madison, CT Woodland Road31.01352180,000 Madison, CT Durham Road41.11652200,000 Madison, CT Samantha Lane32.01306224,400 Madison, ...

The Madison Turkey Trot is coming around for the third time since I started my latest fitness routine. Over the years my workout was typically confined within the walls of a gym and cardio work was never much of a priority.  Oddly enough when I began my real estate career my exercise routine suffered for a few years as I fell into the all work trap.In the fall of '05 as my weight crept up to a new high I began walking with one of the women in my office and our goal was the completion of the two mile walking race at the Turkey Trot.  Well that Thanksgiving morning didn't work out as we'd planned.  The first snowfall of the season left a few inches of ground cover and Jane slid off the road before the race. Shaken but otherwise uninjured her car was towed away and she returned home with ...
