Motivational Monday - Accepting Reality (the Good AND the Bad) in Ourselves

External factors have an impact on our motivation levels during our work days, the one thing WE can control is the attitude that we bring to the table each day. On Mondays, I feel strongly about how significant our own attitudes are!

In our business, we all know that Mondays are often our most hectic days - the attorneys and many lenders, surveyors, inspectors…heck, almost all of our team is off over the weekend. Mondays are catch-up days, often requiring our firemen’s hats that day!

One thing that can help get you through your days, especially Mondays, is to KNOW yourself - accept that you are human and that you have strengths and weaknesses. Many of us who are Type-A personalities, beat ourselves up, believing that making a mistake is intolerable. In our business, that can lead us down a path that we can’t really afford to take.

Should we not come to terms with our own fallibility, we lose our overall sight, totally missing out on any and all opportunities for improvement. Being in tune with our own strengths and weaknesses, allows us to be more effective and avoid self-esteem issues and hiccups in our day as we struggle to resolve our shortfalls.

Acknowledge your mistakes and appreciate your successes. I’m not suggesting that you be braggadocious or publicly beat yourself up; instead, embrace your shortfalls as well as your successes.

And, for Pete’s sake, if you make a mistake and others are involved, OWN IT! “I’m sorry, I was wrong” is not difficult to say when we are in-tune with our shortcomings.

Happy Monday, Everyone!

Good morning Debe,

I so agree with your statment: "If you make a mistake and others are involved, OWN IT!" Its the perfect way to move on by just apologizing for what occurred. It's such a shame there are agents that just get those words stuck in their throat and won't utter the magic words to smooth things over!

well said. Beating yourself up excessively for mistakes never seems to serve much purpose . Better to Own it and move on!

We are going to make mistakes, and when we do, we need to own up to it and do what we can to fix it.

Absolutely true!

Have a wonderful Tuesday.

Hi Debe- I've had this set aside to read and just now getting around to it. All of your words ring true. To be good and better at what we do, we have to know and accept who we are...the good and the bad. And yes, I have a high respect for anyone who makes a mistake and owns up to it.

Hi Debe,

Life is a series of challenges and opportunities.  We need to be able to reflect on both areas but always continue to move in a forward direction.

Debe:

I really liked this post, but in particular your comment about owning up to your mistakes and saying you're sorry. Too bad some have hard time doing this or perhaps don't feel the need.

My friend always says that the only way he can be right is to be willing to be wrong and I really agree with that in a lot of ways.
