Brenda Thompson is the managing broker at HomeSmart Stars in Plano, TX. She was recently featured in Inman Connect.
I totally agree with her top tip for newly licensed agents and brokers.
"Find a mentor, a coach, or a tribe you can connect with. You need a person or group you can bounce ideas off of, share successes with, people who will celebrate with you, and lift you up in the hard times, too. Whether in person or virtual, local or national, you need regular check-ins with a mentor, coach, or tribe."
Brenda was the broker at United Real Estate when I made the switch from Keller Williams. After she left URE, it took me a few years, but I finally made the move to HomeSmart Stars and joined a team - my tribe for connections.
Bob McCranie, also an ActiveRain blogger, is the leader of that team. I've known Bob even longer than I've known Brenda - we met because of ActiveRain, back around 2006.
Last December, I got an invitation to the HomeSmart Stars holiday party and was amazed at how many agents I knew. Then I went to the United holiday party and I knew significantly less. I had planned to join HSS anyway, but found a welcoming group of agents on the team and in the office, and a broker who is involved in the profession, who does not play favorites, and who communicates with her agents.
I'd follow Brenda again, but I doubt that's necessary. We're not going anywhere!
