This post is an entry to the February challenge hosted by Debe Maxwell, CRS and Brian England.
The City of Chicago has so much going on it is a city hard not to love. Whether you are a sports fanatic (we have several professional teams) on a year round basis or into museums ( we have some of the world's best) we can accommodate you.
Want to enjoy the outdoors? We have Lake Michigan for your boating pleasure or the 26 miles of bike, running and walking paths along its shore line. Not into the water, Chicago has many parks scattered around the city in its 77 individual neighborhoods.
Have not got your interest yet? Shopping your thing? We can accommodate that also. We have The Magnificent Mile (Michigan Avenue) north of the Chicago River and State Street south of the Chicago river in addition to many shopping areas around the city and surrounding suburbs.
So we seem to have something for everyone. Those who follow me here in the Rain know I was born and raised here and then moved to Florida for 27 years. My son was born here in Chicago and we moved to Florida when he was 6. As we left the sight of the Chicago skyline he announced he would be back. At the time we just laughed.
Upon graduation from the University of Florida, he sought employment in Chicago and left the state of Florida behind. As we approached retirement our sights honed in on the city and being closer to my son and his family. So we to made the move back the the city 7 years ago. We now live in a hirise near the central downtown area as does my son, his wife and two children. We watch the grandkids three days a week and although it can be tiring at our age, we love it.
Ok, you now know why it is easy for people to live the city, but what do I love? I love the city bird which is what I call the steel cranes that fill the city skies with new construction projects. I can see many from my balconies. The crane in the photograph is a block form me. It is an office building. Why, when vacant office space is everywhere you might ask. Well, the developers have had success leasing to startup companies in older buildings in the same area and feel there is a demand for more modern facilities in the same area. Time will tell. In the meantime I can enjoy the view and progress they are making.
Chicago is also famous for its restaurants and many are featured on TV, magazines and newspapers. My choice for many Italian dishes is a little family owned restaurant in the River North neighborhood with absolutely fantastic eggplant parmesan and Calamari.
Club Lago is currently under the ownership of two brothers, Gian Carlo and Guido, who purchased it from their father in 1998. Their father purchased it from his father-in-law in 1970. And their grandfather established it in 1952. The building had previously been a seafood restaurant and still has some of the original decorating. We are not in Boston but this place is our version of Cheers!
