Okay, that is a little vicious.

While I wish the leaves would stay upon the trees a bit longer I still enjoy raking them for several reasons.

1) It's a family affair.

2) it reminds me of when the kids were young

and would love to jump into the pile.

3) It is usually a beautiful day when I rake.

Here is a tip or two about raking. When raking leaves use a leaf rake. Okay that sounds dumb but it you use a thatching rake you will hate the job. If you use a garden rake you will hate the job. As far as leaf rakes any of these work great.

My favorite is the 24" rake from Walmart for $12.94. The wider and with more teeth the better as you cover more ground faster.

Another little tip is if you buy a wood handle rake paint the handle every other year or you will be getting splinters. Of course if you wear gloves that is not necessary but your rake will last longer. Gloves are a good idea no matter what as you may rake up matter you don't want on your hands.

Excellent tip about wearing gloves.  Never thought about painting the handle tho I have for the most part always worn gloves.  I agree about the selection of rakes as well.

Thank you Leanne Smith . I store my rakes outside all summer and at the turn of the season I put them away and get out the shovels. Those handles get painted as well.

Funny no snow shovels here. My husband and I chuckled when we see snowblowers at the local hardware stores. Of course at 4,000-5,000 ft snow does accumulate.  We are are 3,000 ft. If we get any, it melts within a day.

Also we have learned to stay home when it snows as high desert drivers do not know how to drive in snow. 😉

That would be funny to see snowblowers in the desert Leanne Smith . As far as drivers not knowing how to handle snow we see a lot of that for the first couple of snow because of all the Southern State kids serving on the Air Force base.

I have a funny story.... this Hungarian farmer's daughter moved to the big city... and she developed a snooty attitude.... and returned to the farm and made a sarcastic comment as to what is this? and stepped on the rake... and it hit her in the nose... she started cussing and cursing who left the F'n rake there:))Endre

Good morning, Bob... your post just reinforced my delight in having made a decision 17+ years ago to live where they do all that raking and lawn care for me! I live in a neighborhood with a heavy tree canopy... so I can tell you there are a lot of leaves to rake.

Endre Barath, Jr. I have learned the garden rake lesson a couple of times in my life, I hope I did not cuss enough to make a spectacle of myself. BTW it is only garden rakes that do that, a leaf rack won't attach.

It is here in the Northland Mary Hutchison, SRES, ABR . A week ago we had a few leaves in our yard but today I'd say 70% of the leaves on the trees have fallen. It's like an avalanche.

Good afternoon Bob. Like your choice of rakes. Never painted a handle, never wore gloves, and never got splinters. Just lucky I guess. These days live in the sky and do not need a rake,  Thinking of the suburbs, will be looking for an HOA to handle the raking chores. Enjoy your afternoon.

Wayne Martin most of my tools are either older then my children or tools I rescued from the trash so I am creative in my care of the tools.
