Real Estate Market Trends

If you're like a lot of other consumers, trite slogans and marketing come- ons aren't convincing. Especially when it comes to the most expensive investment you may ever make; numbers are far pithier.

Think about it -- which of these is of more value to you: “Now is the best time to buy or sell a house!” or “Real Estate Market Report for Yourtown, Yourstate?”

Not only is this section of ActiveRain chock full of up-to-date real estate market reports but market statistics and market trends as well. Best of all, they're written in plain English by the experts – those that actually work in these markets on a daily basis.

Inflation is a negative economic word, in my book. We are all aware of the effects of inflation. In 1968 I could buy a gallon of gas for 25.9 cents/gal.  In 2023 I'm paying around $3.55/gal at my favorite gas fillup. (numbers vary based on locale) Hmmm...$5.18 for 20 gallons vs. today's $61.00 for the same 20 gallons. On the flip side, let's take gold. In the 1930s gold was valued at roughly $20 per ounce and you could buy a very good suit with that $20. Today, you can buy that same very good suit with that same ounce of gold, which is now valued at roughly $2,000 per ounce (I know, today's spot is $1927). And we all know that suits do not appreciate in value...lol Housing and gold are good hedges against inflation, imho. Now, if only wages would keep pace. It would be nice to get paid i...

Why Is Housing Inventory So Low?One question that’s top of mind if you’re thinking about making a move today is: Why is it so hard to find a house to buy? And while it may be tempting to wait it out until you have more options, that’s probably not the best strategy. Here’s why. There aren’t enough homes available for sale, but that shortage isn’t just a today problem. It’s been a challenge for years. Let’s take a look at some of the long-term and short-term factors that have contributed to this limited supply.Underbuilding Is a Long-Standing ProblemOne of the big reasons inventory is low is because builders haven’t been building enough homes in recent years. The graph below shows new construction for single-family homes over the past five decades, including the long-term average for hous...
