This month, Debe Maxwell, CRS has asked us to share the fabulous blooms we are seeing this time of year. Once Old Man Winter FINALLY decided to move on, our weather then turned to torrential rains and hail. Spring in Denver can take on many different faces.
We did have a few flowering trees, but when the last snowstorm blew into town, that was the end of the flowering trees. There are a few lilac trees in my neighborhood, and they especially smell very fragrant. We did have a few neighbors will beautiful tulips, but did not get photos of them.
At my old home, I would be having the garden tilled to prepare for the planting of the year. Over the last 4 years, I plant only in pots for my back patio. But, over the last couple of years, the tomatoes nor the green chiles have done well, and had nothing to show for watering and weeding all summer. So, still have my chives, garlic and regular, plus a few flowers. There was a hail storm I got with 1.25" stones, so beat up my pot a bit.
I have had 3 geraniums and one other plant (not sure what it is) and have taken them in and out of the garage to enjoy warm weather for 4 years. I have an insulated garage door, so it never gets below 50 in there, no matter how cold it gets outdoors. They have done very well. Right now I have two rosemary plants also.
I personally love tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths, but my favorite is Freesia. I have bought these bulbs, but have never been able to keep them alive. They smell AMAZING and usually are available this time of year.
I think my neighbors are all a bit worried about putting a lot of flowers out just yet. Even this week, we have storm chances every afternoon, and some of them have been producing more hail.
I won't be putting any more flowers out in my yard, as I want to travel some again, and have a neighbor that will water, but don't want to burden her with too many plants.
