Here are the 3 most expensive counties in the US. #1 was actually kind of surprising!
#3 is Marin County, California. Marin County sits just north of San Francisco on the Pacific Ocean and west of Napa Valley. It’s this geographic location that contributes to it being one of the most affluent counties in the country. Marin has a high-paying job market and a large retired population with significant wealth which makes it a very expensive place to live.
#2 on the list is Santa Clara county, California. Santa Clara county houses the city of San Jose and sits just across San Francisco Bay from Marin County. For all intents and purposes, Santa Clara county IS Silicon Valley, so it’s obvious why this county is on the list of most affluent. Some of the largest tech companies are headquartered here, and 1 in 4 workers here is employed in some tech-related field.
And the most expensive county in the US is Loudoun County, Virginia. Loudoun county has sat at the top of this list since 2008 with a median household income of around $140,000. Location- wise, Loudoun county sits northwest of Washington D.C., with the origins of Loudoun's wealth dating back to the early 1960s when the Washington Dulles International Airport was constructed nearby.
