Well, ain't that a kick in the pants?

By
Real Estate Agent with Jameson Sotheby's International Realty

"Can you come over and give us a market evaluation on our property?" asked the email.

"Sure, I'd be happy to... can I ask how you heard of Alan... was it my internet presences, Active Rain, a referral, one or more of my many "for sale" signs?"

"Well, we met you about 11 years ago.  You were conducting an open house, and we thought you seemed nice and knowledgeable."

Well, ain't that a kick in the pants?  It's so nice that they remembered me, from 11 years ago.  I dropped them off my drip campaign a long time ago.

Looking For Homes With A Smile

Alan, it is nice to learn that someone has had good vibes about you when you are busy doing things an just hoping you get a lead.

I had a lady contact me about five years after I had worked her mortgage loan.  Her reason?

A few months after she bought her home, her son played with matches and lighter fluid, set their deck and the neighbors deck on fire.  She was a single mom afraid Child Services would take him away.  Her neighbor had suied her, and the boy was acting out in rebellion.  She had no where to turn, but the boy remembered my being nice to him when they bought the house.  She called and asked if I would sit down with him and hear him out.  I did, and that alone was a greater reward than I could have imagined.  Whe she married, and they began looking for a house, she had to track me down, and she did.  What more could I wish?  I worked hard on her mortgage loan, but a child remembering a kind word won the day.

Alan... there must be a "slogan" for your business hidden in this situation. But I've had this happen as well, but not after 11 years. And it's one reason I never remove anyone from my email list till they ask me to. I like being the last woman standing when they have a need to buy or sell.

Sep 28, 2015 11:37 PM

I think that's great advice... never remove them until/unless they ask.

That's so cool! Just goes to show that we do make impressions on people we meet...not just when we're working, but always.

We do.  We leave good impressions as well as bad impressions.  We have to be constantly aware of our public persona.

The longest prospect I know of was a woman I met at an open house in 2009. I sold her home in 2014. Once again, she called because she liked me.

I think it helped that I've had a few recent sales in this woman's neighbourhood.... and that triggered the memory of my name.

Alan, Was their last name Pachyderm by chance?  That's a long time to hold onto an agent name!  I've sat down with potential sellers and they can't even remember the name of their buyer's agent from 5 years ago (and sometimes even less time than that).

Sep 29, 2015 04:18 AM

... and I wasn't even their agent!

I didn't... but keep in mind, they weren't my client.  They were just visitors at one of my open houses, 11 years ago...yeesh.
