Whiskey's Wisdom: Tenacity Enjoys The Winner's Circle

"Persistence Trumps Talent."
An Unknown Author but Most Attributed to Author Daniel Pink

Your action for today
is to reflect on where
your persistence has paid off.

Whiskey proves this quote right nightly in the kitchen.
I have the cooking skills to create wonderful meals,
Whiskey has the persistence to lack this talent
yet enjoy many tasty samples from these same meals.

I never set out to reward his begging, but he's crafted it into a very subtle "puppy dog eyes stare" as you'll see below.

This is literally a photo of him at our kitchen's edge wearing me down. He just out lasts me. He is a master negotiator because he remains calm, poised and persistent. He never gives up nor does he think for a minute he's not getting some treats from the nightly menu...it's inconceivable!

Persistence, and this face...

...trumps my talent to say "No Whiskey".
I try to be strong, but those eyes...those eyes!

Talent plays a role, but I have seen far less experienced agents and far less talented agents NOT get the listing because a more persistent and possibly creative agent pursues the seller with a tenacity more experienced agents may have lost over years of getting comfortable.
Being new, being uncomfortable or just sheer ignorance to what can and can't be done, often trump experience and certainly complacency and comfort.

Good morning, Thomas... I totally agree. Persistence pays off. I've met many a more talented or smarter person than me, who have accomplished way less than me because they didn't have staying power to keep powering through.

Agreed Nina Hollander, Broker talent gets you started but persistence pays off.
Each month I see it in our BBR Top 10 Agents of the Month.
Some are very new to real estate but they have a fire in their belly that keeps them going on the "treadmill" longer than more experienced agents.

A sunny and hopefully much cooler good morning from NW AZ.  Yes those eyes. Our newest rescue has adopted a similar behavior.  Our older dog just knows when the time is right he will receive the leftovers.

Thomas J. Nelson, REALTOR ® e-Pro CRS RCS-D Vets  love your analogy my cat Cleo does the same except she wants treats but her constant meow gets her what she wants. So yes persistence does pay off! Get to work and keep in constant contact!

Hello Thomas - Whiskey has done it again.  Persistance can play a powerful part.  Quickly thinking of my childhood - that's a wayback trip in the time machine too - and I can recall examples.  At play and in the performance of life.  Adolescence is not pretty - well, not for me.

I've seen SO many agents become licensed, then quit before they really get started - because success didn't happen for them within a month or two.

And, I've seen the same thing with agents who started prospecting, then gave up after one of two letters. I tell them not to buy my letters and not to even start unless they're going to stick to it.

So true Marte Cliff - my original broker told me not to bother starting a farm unless I had done the research and then committed a set-aside budget of 3 years to give my campaign a chance to "seed and grow". He also said it better be an area you're present in.

Yes. When you develop a farm you build "mind share" so that the residents think of you first when someone mentions real estate.

You CAN prospect shorter term if you're writing to people in specific situations, such as divorce, probate, etc. But even then - one or two letters won't do it.

Maybe I should have my eyes surgically altered to look like begging dog eyes in order to secure the business that I am pursuing.

Or, maybe I could borrow Whisky to take on my listing appointments.
