Why We Enjoy Our Special Town of Prospect CT
Prospect CT is a town of App 10,000 residents located in New Haven County. It is as typical a small town as can be found in Connecticut. Once given the distinction by Money Magazine as one of the top 300 towns in the Nation, it has since adopted the title of Best small town in CT. This was based on quality of life, services to residents, average income of the families and the school systems.
It is predominately a residential community whose residents commute to the nearby towns. It has a well-recognized Regional school system shared with Beacon Falls CT. It is also recognized as a well-managed town with taxes under control.
There are so many things that people take for granted in their communities, especially when it is a large city or town that offers so many options. In a small town of 10,000 residents it could be very easy to venture into the neighboring larger towns for diversions. It does happen for the finer restaurants and the arts, but for the day to day life events, Prospect CT offers as much or more than its neighbors.
The town Center, once called the Meeting Center is still the location where a majority of many activities are held. In early spring, it's the Easter Egg Hunt; Mid-summer offers the Sock Hop offers which is a combination Oldies Tune dance as well as a car show where as many as 700 cars have been on display.
The fall season gets the Pumpkin Fest with the full display of decorated pumpkins from the elementary children in town schools.
For nature lovers or anglers, there's McGrath Pond, just off the center of the town. In early spring, it is stocked for the early fishing derbies and as not all of the fish can be emptied on a day, the rest of the summer will find someone on the bank with their rods in hand.
Through the summer there are people sitting around the pond and even some picnicking on the tables nearby.
Hotchkiss Field is the largest park in town and it is a multi-purpose play area with all seasonal activities available. There are the basketball courts tennis courts, running track, soccer pitches, ball fields, and even the ice-skating area.
The Field of Dreams play-scape and is a wonderful play area for younger kids.
The Senior Center is a multi-activity center that is not only a hit with the over 55 residents of Prospect but the older kids from surrounding towns find it to be welcome center for them as well.
The school system in Prospect CT is a Regional system with Beacon Falls. It is a very well-established system and has been rated very highly for its offerings to students and for the outstanding achievements of its students.
Prospect CT is a town of single-family dwellings. There are 2 adult condo developments in town, and they are well managed and see nominal resale activity.
Our family first came to Prospect CT in 1974. By standards of some residents, we are not really well established as yet.
We enjoy the peaceful nature of the town and especially the neighbors we have in our little slice of town.
