Wonder Mongering - Driver Rules & the Rules of Life

By
Real Estate Agent with DFW FINE PROPERTIES 0506509

How could everything be so right and then like a bolt of lightning everything changes? Today is Wednesday, September 13, 2023. Wednesday is for Wonder Mongering. This photograph was recently taken from my window seat flying on United.

Today's blog post is dedicated to anyone wonder mongering about why strange things happen causing others to seek clarity to the problem-solving process after somebody does something stupid to change the course of good.

My colleagues and I are used to problem-solving when it comes to the real estate business. We can appreciate consulting with our clients about the value of doing things the right way by making corrections, modifications, or changes when needed. Taking responsibility is expected behavior.

Flying in the sky can be so peaceful. For me, I do a lot of soul-searching. As the plane flew my thoughts changed. But just like a bolt of lightning causes one to sit up straight and take notice, I notice land travel is not so peaceful, especially when drivers are driving in the cloud and distracted.

I hadn't been on the ground for 24-hours when crash! Smash! A driver rear-ended my vehicle. The driver's excuse with calm voice: "I'm sorry. I was distracted. I wasn't looking."

There are a lot more drivers on the road. During 2023, I have noticed many stupid actions by drivers behind the wheel. Something I learned on the day I received my Driver's License when I was a young driver is something my driving instructor said to me, after he saw me leaping for joy! He said:

"Congratulations! You are a licensed driver and a potential killer. Never take that license for granted. Keep your eyes on the road and two hands on the wheel. Stay focused. Take turns. Never underestimate the speed at which others drive. Consequences happen when driving too fast and not paying attention."

Over the years, Driver's Rules and the Rules of Life can apply to most anything in life or business.

  • Not paying attention can kill a deal or a life.
  • Anyone with a license is held to higher standards.
  • Never take having a license for granted.
  • Keep your eyes focused.
  • Hold on and stay steady.
  • Pay attention.
  • Take turns.
  • Never underestimate the power you have behind your stupid actions.
  • Consequences happen.
  • Pay attention.

FYI - DRIVERS BEWARE! These states—California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington—issue a license if an applicant provides certain documentation, such as a foreign birth certificate,

You were recently rear-ended?  I hope that you didn't get hurt in any way.  Where were you traveling to via airplane?

Good morning Patricia. In the Sanctuary city of Chicago yesterday I was hot by a non-licensed individual with absolutely no personal identification of any sort. She spoke no English. We requested a Spanish speaking officer and that helped. So, in my city the first thing we have to do before we set our sights on licensed people paying attention is to get unlicensed people off the road. That's my wonder-mongering for the day.

Wayne Martin - I have had more close calls than raindrops falling on Texas. This is my second rear-ended accident in two months. My car barely got out of the body shop when now I'm dealing with it all over again. I like your suggestion!!!

Wow, you got rear ended again? That's terrible! Are you okay?

As for your post, there are rules associated with driving for a reason! Paying attention is one of the most important ones.

Hope today is a good one.

Good morning, Patricia... were you rear-ended recently? Fortunately, I haven't been in a long time, but the two times I was it was by clients who were following me and not paying attention! Loved your analogy of driving and life rules.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Until 2023 I had no car accidents. I flew back from San Antonio on a night flight on 9/9/23; the accident happened on 9/10/23 (less than 24 hours). With the first accident it took such a long, long time to get my car back. Is everyone using the same excuse? There is a shortage of parts. If so, we need jobs filled with safety and comptency skills for auto parts (rear side sensors and back-up cameras), body parts, technology parts, building materials too.

Thanks for loving my analogy. I loved my photograph!!!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP hi Patricia... both times I was rear-ended, it took a long time to fix and that was before supply chain issues brought about by COVID. I recently purchased a new hybrid car from Honda and they told me they are very short on parts and cars.

Hi Nina Hollander, Broker - UGH! Before suppy chain issues? Now that is pathetic! I purchased a 2022 Subaru early last year. It took ~eight months to get, purchased sight unseen because there were none at the dealerships I visited. My last two cars I had until they weren't drivable. 208,000 miles and the previous one before that slightly less but over 200,000 miles. Neither one of those older cars had any damage.

FYI. Two close Collisions Centers where I live are overcapcity! They will not even take anymore business. Tomorrow, I'll find out approximately how long it will take this time!

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP same here in Charlotte... collision centers are all over capacity. Fortunately, when I went into Honda (where I've been a client for more years than I can count) they had the car I wanted in inventory so I bought it on a Saturday and picked it up on a Sunday.

Nina Hollander, Broker - you were LUCKY!

My previous car was a Hyundai. The Dealership where I bought it was great. The Service Department wasn't! I started taking my car to another Hyundai - they were great the first year. Then, they kept bugging me to trade mine in for a new model and service got slower and not so good as time went by. I tried another Hyundai Service Dept. - same thing!

Before that I had a Nissan Maximum. Loved everything about it! The reason why I decided on Hyundai was because they offered 10,000 mile services as an incentive.

Nina Hollander, Broker

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP I thought about a Hyundai hybrid, but then heard that they were having serious issues with transmissions falling out of the cars and repairs being backed up for months here in Charlotte. I've driven Hondas for decades (first on in 1982)... and have never had an issue. My husband also drives a Honda and has never had an issue.

Sep 13, 2023 06:42 AM
Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP

Nina Hollander, Broker - OMG! That is a very serious issue with transmissions falling out of cars! Can you imagine being on a highway or Interstate driving behind one of those cars and having that come at you!

Once (long time ago) I was driving down a very busy Expressway. I was behind a truck with those very big metal Garbage Cans or drums that store oil piled up on the back of the truck. I saw those drums bouncing around and decided to change lanes just as the driver hit a bump and one fell off the truck. I was so thankful I was alert and moved out of its way or I would have gotten hit. And yes, the truck kept going, oblivious to what had occured.

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP I'm by no means a timid driver and have driven all over the world at all kinds of speeds. But those kinds of truck scare me to death.

Nina Hollander, Broker - Me too! A new driver or a Senior may never have a chance to get out of a situation like that OR people texting and using their cell Phones!

Kat Palmiotti - both drivers were unconcerned about the damage they did and the consequences to me. One TX DL was unlike anything I ever saw before (can't say anymore about it).

A driver's license shouldn't be that easy to get. It's sooooooo sad.

Sep 13, 2023 06:14 AM

Patricia Feager, MBA, CRS, GRI,MRP sad to say, but they are now handing out driver licenses in NY State like they are candy to illegals. No test, no determination if they know rules of the road or even English to read signs.

Kat Palmiotti - I have traveled to many different countries. Not one of them allowed me to rent a car. Signs are all in the countries language. Restaurant menus, country of origin. U.S. Embassy in Switzerland - When I had passport issues, my daughter had to swear and assume guardianship in writing for me during the duration of my time in that country.

Well Patricia you've packed a lot of word mongering into this post!  Love the photo - Wow! And it can be so peaceful (or used to be way more so) flying, especially in first class.

As for Agents/Brokers, yes many of us are very good at problem solving on the spot with excellent results for our clients. The more experience one has it appears simple and seamless, because it is we we've done it many, many times over the years.

As for drivers - holy smokes it's a crap shot out there.  I stay off freeways as much as I can as well as the roads I know there are a lot of crazy fast drivers.  We've gotten pretty good at knowing which roads are safe and people are polite and don't speed.  I only wish there were more police stopping these irresponsible idiots - yes they're idiots like there used to be.

I was surprised at the number of states that so freely issue drivers license with no real training or proof.  What are they 'thinking'.  Oh wait, they're  not.

Lastly so sorry you got rear ended and thankfully you're ok Somebody back into my car a few months ago while in a parking lot for Pete's sake.  The lady was very polite and sorry about it and I must say her insurance company called us within a few hours which shocked us both.  We had a top notch experience with the collision center of whom I'd highly recommend.  In fact best service ever and they did what they said they would in a timely manner..

I do believe this is the longest comment I've ever left!  Word mongering got me!! LOL

That's an amazing picture, Patricia.

Just yesterday evening, I was talking with a family member on the phone.  She lives in your state - Texas.  She was talking about how a driver who was traveling like a bat out of Hell, had almost ran into her.  We see it here in Sacramento too.  I don't know if it's drugs, or what.  Just crazy driving!

Thanks for letting me know your thoughts and what you thought of my photo too! I was pleased to see I finally captured a good lightning strike! That isn’t easy. I didn’t mind the long comment at all. Thank you for being interested enough in reading through it.

I think what many agents fail to realize when they get started in this business is that there are no two transactions, people, or problems alike. To the consumer it is not routine and that is where building on patience, knowledge, and expertise succeeds over overreacting.

As for near misses, and a high probability of getting hit by other vehicles, I have lost track. I’m averaging about 3 per week now. Many are in the parking lots. More frightning on busy roads. They are all scary and the offenders and road bullies never stops, slows down or cares. They just keep going. These last two accidents have been very hard on me. Most of my destinations require the expressway, and Interstate. Patient drivers are few. Crazy drivers keep multiplying. Bigger truck drivers have no mercy. Big trucks parked makes it very hard to back out of parking spaces. People walk behind cars backing up. Many Evel Knievel’s on motorcycles too. Yesterday there was one that got very close to me passing, and he proceeded to weave in between lanes and all the cars ahead of me. Lots and lots of banged up old vans carrying ladders and landscaping trailers with junk and machinery not tightly secured. New drivers, old drivers, teenagers, and people who rely on transportation to get their work done beware! It’s wild and whacky and very scary.

Getting rear-ended twice is very stressful. Even worse are the drivers who hit and stop appear like zombies without a heart. Almost like a so what, no big deal. Years ago, drivers causing accidents had their license revoked or suspended, such as 3 strikes you’re out. I don’t know what is happening anymore. Any type of vehicle is a weapon and drivers need to be more respectful. We seem to have an epidemic of maniac drivers without consequences.

George Souto - I can't stand it when I see drivers texting and talking on phones while driving. This laissez-faire attitude while driving as if the driver was behind a desk at work or sitting in their favorite chair behind the wheel is insane!!! All it takes is a second to change someone else's life or end a life and I don't think they care.

Myrl Jeffcoat - I am glad to know you liked and featured my photo in your photo's group too! That made me happy. I need more happiness and you just gave me a dose. Thank you!

I have also wondered if there are more people on drugs driving. There seems to be a lot of bad behavior by drivers on the roads driving with their heads in their own clouds without concern for others. I rarely see police anymore along roadsides. It has to be very dangerous for them too. Do we have a new generation of thrill seekers who enjoy terrorizing others with their vehicles?

Be safe Myrle. It is a whole different world.

Endre Barath, Jr. - first one was end of June; second this past Sunday 9/10. Both accidents happened locally. Both have been very stressful and I'm dealing with a lot of physical and emotional distress. I wasn't the cause of either accident; therefore, no deductible for me. But my new car! It makes me sick.

I was at the REALTOR Conference in San Antonio. That photo was taken in the sky, late Saturday night around 2 a.m. On Sunday was the accident. Yes. That is why I haven't been on the platform recently and I have been busy with clients and listings. Thanks for noticing. Thanks for caring.
