I cannot say what I really feel about that other than it is all bull 💩 and it ties to the new narrative designed to tear down and destroy America!

In our MLS in Houston Texas area, had changed the Master to Primary!!!

But my personal thoughts of using the word "Master" in real estate mainly referred to the one that "PAYS THE BILLS!"  It didn't have any other meaning as some have suggested...

When I was active we used it Inna Ivchenko . As far as it being racist or sexist people who love to find fault are looking for it at every opportunity they can find. I say what sad and pathetic lives they live just looking for negativity in everything.

Oh lordie....here we go again!  I do not pay attention to what a  very small fraction of people consider what it is now...as tomorrow they will make up something new.  Stopped caring awhile back and I do see a trend of a LOT of people not paying attention either.  Let's move on.

All the folks I work with still consider it master suite.  Nobody ever uses another word.  But they do make jokes about  the whole word salad mess.

I don't... I've been using owner's suite for a long time. But my clients all still refer to it as a master suite, master bedroom, master bath. I don't know that there is a "law" against using that term, but our MLS has switched to primary bedroom. Problem is that it's hard to call it a primary suite, which would indicate there is a secondary suite when normally there isn't.

Helping your Montana dreams take root

When adding residential listings, if you want to talk about specific rooms, the checkbox says "primary bedroom" and "primary bathroom". There is no option for master bedroom/bath.

I did find a state government document (Montana) that uses both interchangeably but it's from 2018 so is probably outdated.

There is no local 'law' but, we have changed the term 'master' to 'primary,' despite the use of master in nearly all conversations by our clients!

I still use MBA as PBA would not be recognized in any write-up - not even by the powers that be who decided that we must change a term because we are all foolish enough to believe it means something nefarious!

No local law on this.  I see no reason not to use it but have been using "owner's suite" more than master lately to avoid any potential conflict.

NO, however I know what it implies. Older homes, let's say decades ago, just made bedrooms without baths associated to them. Master indicates a bath.

A moving experience!

It's truly a tempest in a tea kettle.

The term "Master Bedroom" was never, in my humble opinion, used racially.  Think, if you will, of the song "Master of the House" from Les Miserables, which takes place in France in the early 1800's.  Not at all related to slavery, rather the head of the household.  And where would the Master of the house sleep?... why in the master bedroom!

But I suppose, it's just as simple to say primary bedroom, and if it'll ruffle fewer feathers, then I can manage it... but c'mon people.  Don't we have better things to complain about?  Everybody raise a glass!!

Some agents here use "owner's suite" or "primary bedroom with en suite bath" while a few still use "master". I have never understood why no one had a problem with "master bedroom" until recently.

I renamed my master bedroom to plantation headquarters. Is that better?
I use Master Locks on my gate and garden shed. Is that OK?
I searched my property and did not find any slaves anywhere.
No one in my family history ever owned slaves. My ancestors were poor peasant farmers from Europe who came to America to work in the PA coal mines.
Is Ticket Master changing their name?
Gordon Ramsey's Master Chef?
ChannelMaster TV antennas?
Masterpiece Theater on PBS?
Harbor Master?
QuarterMaster?
Concert Master (Maestro)?  These are the worst "offenders".
A Master with a stick, commanding a group of "enslaved" workers.
At the Masters golf tournament, there are Master golfers with clubs that have obedient servants haul their golf bags around for hours, while millions of fans approve this practice, and sponsors pay for ads.
Universities make millions of dollars selling Master degrees.

The most ironic of all is if you are following the commands of your speech Master and obeying as a speech slave, with no freedom of speech.

We can’t use it, it is not a law but a MLS rule.  I am not sure realtors feel this is good but who can say.  Not a fan personally. NW Florida MLS seems to go with NAR guidance.  We have a list of words we can not use but I have never read it.  The MLS reviews our listings and SUGGESTS changes.

I'm not an agent, but I'm with many of the others on this. We are being asked to make a mountain out of a molehill for one purpose.  BTW- I am not asking anyone to call their "Oriental" rug "Asian" rug. Truly common sense went out with the bathwater.

Yes, only ignorant people that are themselves prone to be racist or sexist see it as limited to those meanings. As a wordsmith and a published author, I see it as it's intended.

Our Board changed it a few years ago. I do not think too much of it, since we do not fill in the room names, but select them from a dropdown box.
