Tudor Place is a historic house and garden located in Georgetown, known for its historical significance, architectural beauty, and lush gardens.  It is well worth a trip to visit when you are in Georgetown, particularly in the spring when the gardens are in full flower.   The property was home to the Peter family for six generations from 1806 to 1983. Tudor Place was originally the home of Martha Custis Peter, the granddaughter of Martha Washington (the wife of George Washington, the first President of the United States), and her husband Thomas Peter.  Martha used her $8,000 inheritance from George Washington to purchase property in Georgetown in 1805.  The land, comprising one city block on the crest of Georgetown Heights had  an excellent view of the Potomac River.   Thomas and Martha... 09/28/2023

Marion Falls Is A Hidden Treasure Marion Lake, on the west side of Santiam Pass, is a lovely lake that we had never seen during all the years we have lived in Central Oregon. The drive to the trailhead is longer than what we normally travel for our day hikes (roughly 1.5 hours), but the 10 mile gravel road off Hwy 22 to the trailhead is well maintained and easy to access. We hiked to Marion Lake on a late September Saturday in which the air quality in Bend was poor. Reports showed that the quality of the air west of Santiam would be better than in Bend, so we felt a hike in this area would be warranted and were able to obtain two passes. Minot is home to two restaurants that bill themselves as "Diner"s. There is the Sonic's Chain at 1601 35th Avenue SW . Then there is the local Krolls Diner. Krolls has always been a big favorite of the community, especially the German community as they specialize in Knoephla soup, Fleischkuechle, and of course Sausage & Sauerkraut. They also have great American platters that are usually bigger than your stomach.Kroll's diner has great food BUT they also have great advertisements featuring their two German ladies. Their website is NOT Kroll's but SitDownAndEat which is their slogan. The North Dakota State Fairgrounds is being overrun with Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, Finlanders, & Icelanders. Once again it is North Americas LARGEST Scandinavian festival, the Norsk Hostfest.It's a four day party of ethnic food, entertainment, and shopping. The food is fantastic with top Chefs from Scandinavia and other worldwide locations. Entertainment also includes international artists on multiple stages through out the party grounds every day of the festival. There is more then an acre of shopping featuring mostly hand made items.There is so much to see at the Hostfest you must visit at least two days and of course if you want to see the main entertainment attractions you need to be their all four days.If you can't make it this year I hope to see you next year for the 48th annual ... 09/28/2023

Are you like me and swore you would never wear Velcro sneakers? Stripe shirt, plaid shorts and Velcro sneakers, nope, nope, nope!  Thanks to Skechers and introducing the slip ins no worry about Velcro sneakers.  Watch TV and all the jocks are advertising Skechers, I thought maybe a good solution!By luck Skechers opened a new outlet store in the Rolling Acres Plaza the home of many fine retailers including Target which is golf cart accessible to The Villages,  Skechers took over the old Pier 1 location.  So off we go to Skechers, they were offering one pair I guess at a good price, second pair 50% off and if you join their rewards program an additional 25% off your total sale, sign me up.  Not knowing a lot about Skechers I was amazed with the selection, so what did I want?  Simple I am ... 09/28/2023

The picture above shows the new City Hall from Third Avenue SW and what you are actually seeing is the 2nd and 3rd floor. The 1st floor is accessible from the 2nd or 3rd floor via stairs or elevator. I bring this up because the building does have an entrance from 2nd Ave SW where the City rents out space to two businesses that are not City related BUT access into the City Hall portion is locked. I want to point out that ONE of the excuses the City Council gave for their lavish spending is they did not have enough room in their old building. You didn't have enough space but now you want to rent out space you are sure to grow into???Above is the "Old" City Hall.
