Ask An Ambassador: Routines

Real Estate Agent with Transaction Alliance 513.520.5305 SAL.2002007747

When you have as many furballs as we have, routines are important.

Don't sleep past X time.

Don't put them all to bed before Z time.

Know that if you're late feeding them, they're going to let you know you're late!

As their humans, we have our routines in taking care of them, and they know their part of the routines too!  Feeding time, the cats know where each of them gets fed, and so do the Chihuahuas.   We have a row of small pet crates in the living room and Hairy Winston goes to crate 4, Tiffany to 5, Gia to 6, Ellie to 7, etc.  Kati gets excited at dinner, so she'll run into ANY open crate :)

When it comes to blogging, I have my routines.

When I was in the midst of daily blogging, certain days of the week or month were on a set schedule, so generating ideas for posts was that much easier.  If you KNOW that days 5 through 10 of each month will be a different market report and every Tuesday will be an Ask An Ambassador post, there are a couple of weeks of the month that pretty much take care of themselves.

Even now with just blogging AAAs on Tuesdays, I still have my routines.

Pictures are either from my personal collection or

Ideas come from wherever (something that happened recently, a Q&A, another person's post, etc.), but even with an idea the routine doesn't remain intact.

Today was one of those days, ideas I had, but developing them just wasn't clicking.  After four false starts, I've got starter posts in DRAFT that may never see the light of day, but part of my routine is to NOT write something I'll regret later.

What works for me may not work for you, and vice versa.  With blogging you can find the path that works for you.  Maybe it's mass writing, maybe it's one here and there.  The critical thing is to get quality content out there that matches your audience.

Until next Tuesday, just Ask An Ambassador if you need help,

Bill & Liz aka BLiz

Good evening Bill,

Routines are important and they are different for everyone. Find what works for you and make it happen. Consistency in anything is the key.

Some can blog a lot, some not so often, but getting content out there that matters gives us a chance to be found.

Fun post Liz and Bill Spear . My routine is to get a post up by nine but lately I've not met that goal especially because I am working on the three post challenge instead of posting my son's cartoon for the day and finding a way to make it relate to RE.

Bob, When I was blogging daily, it was whenever I could fit it in, but with the requirement to myself that EVERY day I'd have a post out.  Now, it's whatever time on Tuesday I can get it done.  I prefer earlier in the day than later, but stuff happens so it gets done when it gets done.

Hello Bill (and Liz too) - there are those who seem to make any routine exceptional.  Kudos to you and others who do this type of thing regularly regardless of task.

Some things are non-negotiable (until they're not).  For me, blogging was one of those things, but a tipping point was reached where I had enough evergreen content that I didn't need to put the same (or any) effort into that task.

The furries, that's a demand that can't be changed as long as they're with us.  Either Liz or I have to be home every day, there are too many to practically have someone from outside the home try and take care of them, and the daily charge for a house sitter willing to take on this number is more than financially makes sense for us.

I am glad that I don't have furballs with a routine to manage since I can barely manage my own routine, haha.

We learn the methods that save us time, but there's only so much you can do.  I know to do the normal nightly feeding, I'll have at least an hour of my evening occupied.

So a question about furry family members that popped into my head when reading this - do they all sleep all night long?

As for routines, yes, in order to get things done that are important, they have to be part of a routine. Whether that means they go on the actual calendar or that means a certain time every day something specific just happens (like feeding the animals!) then that's what has to happen!

Barring something unusual, the dogs will sleep through the entire night, but I can't count on them sleeping the entire morning if I want to sleep in.  The cats are either in their 3 tiered cat condos, the laundry room, or a spare bedroom and locked up, so they'll usually be totally quiet through the night.

That's good! I was imagining little feet running around the house all night long, Liz and Bill Spear !

No free range kitties at night :)  And the two dogs that aren't in a cage know to bunker down for the night.

Excellent post as always. I sit down with a pen and legal pad and brainstorm topics. Usually I make myself write down ten. From the 10, I walk away with 3-4 decent topics.

The ideas are generally out there for us to find.  The challenge I may find some days (such as yesterday) is finding a topic that I can explore without tone issues.

Funny thing I started working on a post before I read your post that marries this one very well. Having a routine is important and being as consistent to that routine is essential.

The good thing about combining my Navy background, engineering and real estate is I can assess what I need to do and decide how to get it done.

You've gotta have a routine down pat with all your critters to attend to Bill!  We only have 2 but they love their routines....and  we better do it or they'll let us know!  LOL  It's kind of cute actually! They try!

As for blogging, yes when I was blogging a lot I did have a routine that I tried to keep as often as possible.  Having the right tools on hand made a big difference with keeping the process of writing and constructing the post much easier.

Our furries definitely keep us on task!  And how we manage those routines at our next place has been a critical part of our planning process.

Routines, whether work or real life-related, are a good thing overall. You know what to expect, and when, and can plan accordingly around them. Some of them are more negotiable than others.

There's always the curve ball that comes up, but for the most part we can plan and move forward.

Lise, A fair number of our furry crew is on a custom meal plan.  X won't eat turkey, Y doesn't eat salmon, this one prefers kibble, this one doesn't like that additive, and the list goes on.  We figure out what works and adjust from there :)

I have a love-hate relationship with routines . . .

I'm pretty well conditioned on my own to get x done by x time first, so I can then take time to play! But Moxzilla has certain requirements, LOL!

And I am nothing if not well trained . . .😜

Oh, Moxie wants to answer that . . .
"That's when I bring ALL my squeaky toys and make them sing UNDER YOUR DESK while you are ON THE PHONE"  lol

Maybe Brian England 🧠 should answer! 🍸
